I can't say it's worth it at the price yet. Some players will definitely prefer one over the other. Multiplayer gives time to dig into the specific systems more, remote pilot vehicles more, etc, but also means there is less work in the downtime while travelling between islands. Single player there is a LOT to handle, and you'll need to be multitasking and planning methodically to survive. It is also a very different game single player vs multiplayer. but if you expect the game to manage the pace for you and keep things moving, it just won't.ĭifficulty can vary a lot depending on the random map starting conditions or events in game, so you need to vary tactics quite a bit, as you can't rely on any one winning strategy. If you are roleplaying the sim you'll be sending out scout planes to gather intel ahead, while running your manufacturing and logistics network etc. There is no fast travel, so there will be times when you might leave yourself with nothing to do while you slowly sail to your next destination. If you don't the game might feel a bit odd and undeveloped. If you like that kind of thing you'll get a lot out of it. This makes it slightly janky and unbalanced at times, but contributes to the immersion of everything happening for a reason (rather than just cause game mechanics demand it.) It feels very sim, in that lots of stuff is simulated under the surface to create a living environment in which the game takes place. Game is totally worth it _IF_ you like 90s style simulation games. There also hasn't really been any major updates, just little fixes on what is broken so far. Not that they've been super slow in responding to the community, but they haven't been all that quick either and there is soooo much to do before you can declare it out of early access. As far as I can tell they're just using the whole community as beta testers right now, and judging by the pace of things it's probably gonna be like this for a while yet. If I could go back in time I would probably wait another 6-12 months before buying it. Might have been different if they hadn't released it in this beta stage. Also, by the time they get it all in order I will likely have forgotten about it. It just feels like a fairly limited experience right now and I don't see it being one of those games I can return to periodically, which I do kind of expect at this price tag, but maybe it's just me. There's only so much you can do and so many times you can blow targets up before it gets dull. Even after they apply the massive number of improvements and fixes that it needs I still don't see a very high ceiling with replay-ability, unless they greatly expand it later on (Which likely won't happen in the foreseeable future because it's still early-mid beta). I can already tell that it's most likely gonna be a dust collector and not a game I can keep going back to. I got a lot of hours out of it and had some fun, but there is definitely a limit (I would say I got my moneys worth but only just, the price tag is a bit ridiculous for an early access game.).

I'm sure you've heard this already because a lot of people say it, but it's important to know. First of all, by any reasonable standard this IS an early access game, even though they don't tell you that.
